Luke's Surgery

February 21, 2008
Luke had surgery this week. He had a tethored chord with some fatty tissue attached and a neurosurgeon had to do the surgery. He went in on Tuesday and came out on Thursday. We have been home since just after lunch. Luke, however, has been throwing up and is unable to hold anything down. We are keeping an eye on him closely.

Luke was a trooper, as usual. He did not want much pain medicine and he is currently only on Tylenol. I don't think I could be as brave as he. He had to remain on his stomach for at least 24 hours and on his side the next. The incision was about 1 1/2 to 2 inches on his lower back. It looks good and it appears to be air tight. He has to remain "down" for at least two weeks. Ask me how easy that will be!!!!!!

This was the last surgery that we knew about. There could be more but they aren't in the plans at this time. We are grateful. It is hard on the family, especially Lauren. She gets really emotional. She loves her little brother. She stayed with Grandma Washburn while Luke was in the hospital. She is glad to be home (and yet still misses grandma).
